Banish that belly this Boxing Day!
| 22nd November 2011Winston’s Wish, the leading childhood bereavement charity, is counting down the days until its Boxing Day Challenge. With last year’s event sadly cancelled due to thick snow the charity is hoping that more people than ever will sign up.
The Challenge is a two or four mile run or walk around Cheltenham Racecourse. This makes it perfect for keen runners to race it out, steady joggers to take part with friends, and walkers recovering from their Christmas indulgence to enjoy the scenery.
The event is organised by international 1500m runner James Brewer, who is currently preparing for his own challenge of making the British team for next year’s Olympics. Speaking about the Challenge he said, “I’m keen to make this year’s event the best yet! The ‘Challenge’ offers people the perfect opportunity to get out of the house and get some much needed exercise, all while having a great time with friends and family.”
“I hope that we can attract over 1,000 people to the event and raise in excess of £5,000 for the charity. This is enough to allow two children and their families to receive the full programme of support from Winston’s Wish so those taking part really will make a difference.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing everyone on Boxing Day morning, why not come and join us!” said James.
Sally Davies, Regional Fundraising and Events Manager for Winston’s Wish commented “With every penny raised going towards the vital work that we do with bereaved children, young people and their families we are hopeful that the people of Gloucestershire will get behind James and this wonderful event. We are delighted that James is organising this special event for Winston’s Wish and are hopeful that it will raise a fantastic amount of money.”
The Challenge starts from Cheltenham Racecourse at 10.30am with registration from 9am in the Best Mate Enclosure. A £5 entry fee is charged for anyone who wishes to take part; all proceeds from the entry fee will go to Winston’s Wish.
